Ephemeral lives, and souls lost in the tattered fabric of war, displacement, and ruined love find hope, redemption, and a common voice in Eugene Gloria 's artful concoction of American and Filipino vernaculars. While some of these thirty poems deal with the landscape and folkways of contemporary Filipinos, others locate themselves on the streets and byways of present-day America. Like many poets of dual heritage, Gloria's work is concerned with self-definition, with the attempt to reconcile a feeling of exile and homelessness.
Frequently taking the form of character studies and first-person narratives, Gloria's poems poignantly illuminate the common man's search for connection to the self and to the world. Each poem seems to embody the plain-spoken as well as the embellishments that we associate with classical and modern Asian poetry. Though many of the poems address the lingering hurt of cultural and economic imperialism, worlds coexist in the same skin through magical imagery.
Gauged by a keen eye, history is scrutinized, but through a playful exactness. These wonderful poems are trustworthy.

Rooms were a good size, with comfortable king size beds. Nice bathroom, very clean, with really excellent shower. Everyone who worked there was extremely pleasant and helpful. Great buffet breakfast was included in the room rate. There was a computer in the lobby available for guests to use. We stayed here for three nights at the beginning of our trip, and then again for one night at the end of our trip. We rented a car and drove all over Portugal, the roads are great.
We had bought some paintings in Lisbon, and decided to leave them, with some extra clothes, at the hotel so we didn't have to drag them with us on our driving tour. The hotel kindly stored our things and had everything there for us when we returned. I can not say enough good things about this 4 star hotel. Lobby is small, but bright and comfortable. Everything is white and light and lovely. I would stay there again should I ever return to Lisbon, and recommend it to friends and family. Our choice of hotel : My Story Hotel, Lisbon, was one of the best decisions we made.
He suggested how we could make the most of our five day stay there; where we should go, where to visit, where to eat, where to meet the locals, what tour group to use for e. We thoroughly enjoyed wonderful Lisboa on our first visit to Portugal and hope to return in the near future. Lisbon is one of my favourite European Cities - more relaxed, friendly and authentic than Barcelona - but still not an overly busy "business" city like Madrid. It did however seem busier than previous years as more people chose to avoid some of the more troubled destinations in favour of "safe" Portugal.
The danger is now that it will attract the same issues as Barcelona in the form of pick pockets etc Sadly we did have all our Euros stolen from our room. Very comfortable beds, large rooms, toiletries are nice. Breakfast in bed is great value, order for x1 as get lots. Room on 5th floor overlooking pool was pretty good view. Concierge very helpful. We arrived at Lisbon airport to Taxi strike - Pay the 39 Euro for chauffeur airport transfer, it's well worth it, it's like mini tour guide plus get special treatment and freebies in car.
Disappointed with x1 bottle free water during our stay, free tea not replenished daily even though member of Discovery Programme. Went to Sky Bar had to wait 30 minutes for a cocktail too long in seated area though not a busy night. Still it was one of the best tasted. Bar service was much quicker. Lisbon has so much to offer, lots of places provide extraordinary views, the Castle is worth seeing.
Tram 28 route is a thrill ride, up and down the hill and takes you around the centre, so it does the trick for tourist. Food isnt anything amazing, fish and chips is probably the main meal deal you get out of Lisbon. Nice walk along the beach, towers the Tower, exceptional view again! Definitely worth the trip, 3 days is a perfect lenght.
I would definitely recommend staying at Epic Sana Hotel in Lisbon, hreat deal through booking. The friendliness of the people the great food and the ease of getting around and value for money overall. It's the best possible location in Lisbon. Next to the park, where all city buses, hop on bus, and busses to airport are stop. On one side you got main street in city which take you to historical centre on other you got business center.
Hotel is good, extremely helpful and nice staff,, nothing is a problem. I arrived at 11 and could go straight to my room without any extra fees even if room should be ready at Rooms is very clean, breckfast nice with good choice. Perfect location along Rua Augusta.
Bus stop directly from airport 1 min from hotel. Our room on first floor was directly facing the bustling Main Street but they had the best sound proof windows. Room was spacious, pillows were fluffy and bed was comfortable. An additional bonus - good spread for breakfast on rooftop terrace with a beautiful view of Lisbon.

Exceptional customer service. The staff is truly amazing! On a short visit to Lisbon, they were eager to provide me with all the needed information to make the most out of my stay. The room was comfortable, modern and VERY clean. I travel frequently and this was by far, my best experience staying in a hotel even among the heavyweights of the industry. The location was second to none, great restaurants and shopping right on our doorstep. We stayed in the suite which was a great size and super comfortable.
The staff on reception were very pleasant and welcoming and answered any of our queries regarding tours, taxis etc. Hotel was clean and tidy throughout with welcoming staff. Location was handy for cheap ish food and drinks with a couple of places round the corner the best, montaditos and Superchef!
Room rate includes and all you can eat style breakfast with eggs, beans, ham, cheese and a multiplicity of breads to choose from, savoury or sweet! All in all a great hotel, a taste of luxury after staying in hostels and what not! We loved everything. The Concierge was so helpful with everything for us, it was our first time in Lisbon they helped us with our dinner, sights and everything in general Nuno and Jorge were the best. We love this hotel. The location is great.
The staff, especially Edmir I hope that I got his name correctly and Igor, are helpful and responsive, having quickly addressed my concerns about the air conditioner. The breakfast, which is offered at the nearby hotel that runs this casinha, is the best among all hotels at which I have stayed in Lisbon and Portugal in general.
The best feature is that it is across the street from the main subway so its easy to get to main plazas, airport or the orient station. There is plenty of shopping nearby. Major mall like cortes ingles and lots of smaller shops pharmacies and eateries. The imperial cafe up 2 blocks is a nice breakfast spot if you opt oit of the breakfast at the hotel.
The service is very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. Although the place is around km from the centre, I would choose it again for my next visit to Lisbon. The reason is the service and value for money. The room price is not cheap but way more reasonable than the hotels in the city centre. The staff was fantastic! Thank you to Daniela for welcoming us and giving us great addresses in Lisbon. One of the best hotels I've stayed in.
This hotel is reason enough to visit Lisbon. The hotel is clean, modern, practical and the friendly staff can't do enough to make you feel welcome and help you. The location is ideal for exploring Lisbon. Great location! In the heart of Lisbon!
